I don’t remember exactly how I found out about this, but I’m glad I did.
For the longest time, I assumed borrowing books from Qatar National Library meant visiting the library, registering in person, and getting a membership card.
It turns out I was completely wrong.
It Was Much Easier Than I Expected
I registered online, filled in a few details, and waited.
About two days later, my membership was approved. I didn’t have to visit the library or do anything else, which honestly surprised me.
If you’re living in Qatar and have a valid Qatar ID or Residence Permit, it’s worth spending a couple of minutes registering. Even if you don’t plan on reading today, it’s nice knowing the account is ready whenever you need it.
Then I Connected It to Libby
After my membership was approved, I connected it to Libby.
If you’ve never used Libby before, it’s an app that lets you borrow ebooks and audiobooks directly from your library. You simply sign in with your library account, borrow a book, and start reading.
When I first opened the catalogue, I honestly wasn’t expecting much. Instead, I was greeted with more than 33,000 titles, including around 23,000 ebooks, 8,000 audiobooks, and over 1,000 magazines. That was the moment I realized this was much more than just a small digital library.
Since discovering it, I usually check Libby before buying a book. Sometimes the book isn’t available, and popular titles can have waiting lists, but I’ve been surprised by how much is already there.
One of Those Benefits Nobody Talks About
When most people think of Qatar National Library, they probably picture the building.
I didn’t realize one of its best features was something I could use without ever walking through the doors.
It’s one of those local benefits that’s easy to miss, and I honestly wish I’d known about it sooner.
